About Sri Paramatman Namo

YOGA'S CHOICE

Summary of Second Speech:

Sanjaya describes the situation of Arjuna, who was worried about the attachment and fear.

Lord Krishna rebuked him for his despair, which was created by Moha or attached to him, and encouraged him to fight. After failing to convince Sri Krishna with his seemingly wise thoughts, Arjuna realizes his futility and is completely devoted to the Lord, seeking His guidance to overcome the conflict of his mind.

The Lord feels sorry for him and continues to enlighten him in various ways. He explains to Arjuna Atman's incorruptible nature, which is not past, present and future. Atman never dies, so Arjuna should not be sad. Skipping five elements, namely, earth, water, fire, air, and ether, it cannot be cut, burned, or dried. It does not change and it is eternal.

Everyone experiences conditions such as pleasure and pain, heat and cold, due to the interaction of objects and nerves. The nerves carry the sensory nerves to the brain. One has to be able to pull the nerves out of objects, such as the tortoise that pulls out all its internal organs. Krishna assures us that only those who are rightly disposed toward happiness and pain are equally worthy of immortality.

Krishna goes on to tell Arjuna that if he refuses to fight and runs away from the war, people will have reason to condemn him for not doing so.

After teaching Arjuna the Atman's immortal nature, King Krishna turns to the practice of action without expecting fruit. A man should not worry about the fruit of action, such as gain and loss, victory and defeat. This is in the hands of the Lord. He should do all he can in a balanced way, enduring peacefully in the face of opposition such as heat and cold, joy and pain, which inevitably result in doing so. Krishna advised Arjuna to fight, with no desire to gain or maintain power.

Arjuna is curious about the characteristics of a man with a stable mind. Such a person, Krishna tells him, will have no desires at all. Satisfied within, having seen for himself, he is completely free from desires. Atman's knowledge and abandonment of desires are one experience. The various attributes of Sthitaprajna (a person with a balanced mind) are described by the Lord. He will not be affected by adversity and will not be afraid or angry. He will take things as they come, and he will not have likes and dislikes. He will not kiss the earth or hate it.

A person with a stable mind will have complete control of the senses. The senses are powerful and pull the mind out. So one has to turn inwardly and see the God who dwells in the heart. Yogi, who has acquired a stable mind, remains steadfast even though all sensible things come to him. He is not moved and lives a life of eternal peace.

Krishna concludes that the eternal kingdom of Brahm frees man from eternal deception. Or at the end of life, when a person leaves this body, one does not lose his identity as a Brahman.
