YOGA DIFFERENCES THREE GUNAS
(XIV)
Summary of the Fourteenth Speech:
Information on the three attributes of the world or the Gunas, namely, Satattwa, Rajas and Tamas is now provided by this term. The knowledge of these three Gunas, who control the universe and all creatures under their control, is very important to each individual for their progress and happiness in life. Without this knowledge a person will always be bound by grief. In this knowledge we have the secret of success in mortal life and soul. Therefore, one must obtain this valuable information.
Lord Krishna revealed that these three attributes make up the Cosmic Nature. This cosmic Nature is the ultimate source and source of all creation and all that is in it. All living things, therefore, are subject to their influence and power. Each soul is bound to the body by these three attributes present in Cosmic Nature. The Supreme Being brings about creation with the help of his Prize (Nature) which is endowed with these threefold attributes.
The top three symbols are Satattwa. It's clean. It brings joy, wisdom and enlightenment. The second quality of Rajas gives the desire manifested in great adherence and greed. It causes grief and suffering. Third, called Tamas, it is the worst. It arises out of ignorance and results in darkness, laziness and deception.
Krishna asks us to work hard to get Tamas out of our situation. We have to control and study the Rajas well, and by catching them, we have wisely diverted its power to good kinds of work. Satattwa must be carefully cultivated, developed and preserved so that we can attain immortality. The scholar shown, of course, surpasses all other qualities, for, although it is Satattah that enables him to reach God, this quality will bind him if he adheres to it.

The target should be aware of the signs and symptoms of their presence in his or her personality and should be aware of their subtleties. Only then can he maintain uninterrupted and smooth progress in all aspects of his life, earthly and spiritual. Lord Krishna teaches us this important subject in this discourse from verses nine to eighteen. He declares that the one who rises above all three Gunas through spiritual practices, is free from birth, death, old age and misery, and enjoys immortality.
In answer to a question from Arjuna, the Blessed King describes the symbols of the one higher than the three Gunas. He says that if a person always serves him with special devotion, he will receive a greater knowledge of God and a higher peace and blessing.

Sri Bhagavaan Uvaacha:
Param bhooyah pravakshyaami jnaanaanaam jnaanamuttamam;
Yajjnaatwaa munayah sarve paraam siddhimito gataah.
The Blessed Lord said:
1. I will once again declare (to you) that highest knowledge, the most advanced knowledge, as I know which all the scholars have gone to perfect perfection after this life.
***
Idam jnaanam upaashritya mama saadharmyam aagataah;
Sarge'pi nopajaayante pralaye na vyathanti cha.
2. Those, who are safe from this knowledge, find unity with Me, who were born at the time of creation and are not disturbed at the time of corruption.
ANSWER: In this verse the knowledge of the Most High is praised by the Lord.
***
Mama yonirmahadbrahma tasmin garbham dadhaamyaham;
Sambhavah sarvabhootaanaam tato bhavati bhaarata.
3. My womb is the great Brahma; that I put the virus; there, OArjuna, is the birth of all creatures!

Sarvayonishu kaunteya moortayah sambhavanti yaah;

NOTE: Three Gunas are available to everyone. No one is exempt from the operation of any of these three attributes. They do not change constantly. Sometimes Satattwa wins and sometimes it is ruled by Rajas or Tamas. One has to analyze and stand as a witness to these three qualities.
***
Tatra sattwam nirmalatwaat prakaashakam anaamayam;
Sukhasangena badhnaati jnaanasangena chaanagha.
6. Of these, Satattwa, bright and healthy, because of his innocence, binds himself clinging to knowledge and happiness, O sinless one!
***
Rajo raagaatmakam viddhi trishnaasangasamudbhavam;
Tannibadhnaati kaunteya karmasangena dehinam.
7. Know you Rajas to be of a kind of passion, a source of thirst (sexual pleasure) and attachment; binds quickly, O Arjuna, bound by attachment to action!
*** SRIMODBHAGAVAD GITA
Tamastwajnaanajam viddhi mohanam sarvadehinaam;
Pramaadaalasyanidraabhis tannibadhnaati bhaarata.
8. But know, Tamas, that you are born ignorant, that you deceive all perfect beings; binds quickly, O Arjuna, with carelessness, sleep and violence!
***
Sattwam sukhe sanjayati rajah karmani bhaarata;
Jnaanamaavritya tu tamah pramaade sanjayatyuta.
9. Satattwa clings to happiness, Rajas takes action, O Arjuna, while Tamas, hides information, incorporates only negligence!
***
Rajastamashchaabhibhooya sattwam bhavati bhaarata;
Rajah sattwam tamashchaiva tamah sattwam rajastathaa.
10. Now Satattwa conquers, O Arjuna, by defeating the Rajas and Tamas; now Rajas, having defeated Sattwa and Tamas; and now Tamas, has defeated Sattwa and Rajas!
*** SRIMODBHAGAVAD GITA
Sarvadwaareshu dehe'smin prakaasha upajaayate;
Jnaanam yadaa tadaa vidyaa dvivriddham sattwamityuta.
11. There, in every gate (feeling) in this body, the light-light shines, then it can be known that Satattwa is the main.
