YOGA DIVISION BETWEEN GOD AND DEMON (XVI)
Summary of Sixteenth Speech:
This speech is vital and instructive to all who yearn for happiness, prosperity, and blessings, and especially to those who want to find success in their spiritual life. Lord Krishna clearly and explicitly portrays the intimate connection between morality and spirituality, between moral life and the knowledge of God and freedom. It lists two types of attributes of conflicting species, the Lord ranks them as superior and demonic (unlawful), and urges us to eliminate the latter and to cultivate divine attributes.
What kind of nature should one cultivate? What behavior should a person follow? What is the way a person should live and act if he is to find God and find divine happiness? These questions are answered with complete clarity and certainty. God's chaste conduct prepares the way for peace and freedom, and the sublime qualities that lead to it are slavery. Cleanliness, morality, and truth are very important for the spiritual and physical well-being of the people here.
Without purity, morality and truth, and without faith in God or the supreme Truth beyond this visible world, man turns into a two-legged beast with vices and vicious deeds, and then dies in darkness. Such a person becomes an enemy and a destroyer of the happiness of others and of himself. Caught in many desires and lusts, enslaved to the pleasures of the flesh and plagued by a thousand cares, his life eventually ends in sorrow and shame. Haughtiness, arrogance, and arrogance lead to this disastrous end. Therefore, a wise person, who desires success, must eliminate evil and cultivate good.
In this world the three gates lead to hell — the gates of passion, anger and greed. From these three attributes one can successfully attain salvation and attain the highest goal, namely, God. The scriptures therefore wisely teach the right way to live a pure, good life. One should therefore follow the general precepts of the scriptures that wish for his well-being and be guided in his actions by their good teachings.
