My Gardening Story
I can still remember my first experience in gardening 20
years back. I never thought it would be a disaster for me and it made me think
of never again gardening. I almost decided to divert my hobbies into something
else.
My Gardening Story
It started a few weeks after moving to my first house. Yes,
it would bring me great happiness as I had been living in cottages and flats
for a long time. I was so happy that I could manage my lawn, paint the walls
and change whatever my mind wished. I thought about starting my own garden with
an orchard to get fresh fruit at home — I had no idea of gardening at the
time. I didn't mind asking for help because I thought it would be easier for me
to do it.
At that time, I already had a grassy area that could be
planted, even if the area was still unsuitable for any crop. I set a few days
to clear the whole area. I was dealing with an unhealthy environment.
I made several attempts to make my garden look beautiful. So I picked up colored boards and used them as borders in my garden to free from insects and animals. I also used my colored rock collections in my garden to make it look more sacred and attractive in front.

I went to the shops and looked for any fruit that could not
be grown - watermelon? Yes! strawberries? Absolutely! I dug a hole and planted
the seeds and watered faithfully every day. Several weeks later, I realized
that there were no plants growing. Even when I saw that there would be no
growing plant, I still continued to water it in the hope that it might be- but
no hope. It was heart-breaking.
So, feeling abandoned and discouraged, I went to surfing the books and looked for gardening tips. No net facility or Youtube was available that time. However, soon I came to a book that had given me real gardening skills. It was during this time that I learned about nutrition, good irrigation, soil consistency, seasonal - and all the other important aspects of farming. After that, I learned the basics of making good soil, nutrients, water and techniques.

If you are in the situation I was in, and you just wish you
could start a new garden - you should learn from my mistake. Just make sure you
research enough of the techniques and information you really need to get the
home garden of your dream.
I live in an upstairs apartment now. So I don't have a
garden to play with. And I feel very angry now because my balcony has a very
tiny space. Otherwise I would have turned the place into a vegetable garden,
herbs and spices.
I am very much passionate about gardening but I have a very little time in my hand now-a-days. So still I am noob when it comes to the garden. My cousin started with me last year when he gave me a flower pot, soil and part of his existing Rose plant. So I came back with everything, replanted the plant and gave it a new home. The only challenge is to make sure the plant gets enough sunlight as it currently sits in a shady area outside my home.

One week into her new home, Miss Rose seems to be growing
slowly. Somehow the flowers do not smell as good as the ones we find in the
store. So I am less likely to put these in my flower vase right now. Maybe
adding fertilizer would help.
I bought two pots of Orchid when I went to Shishu Academy nursery over the weekend. My wife was surprised that I bought more leaves than flowers but I really like them. I love the details of the leaf veins - they are so beautiful! And I deliberately found one green and one red leaf to go with it.

These Orchids grow easily. They need to be kept in a shady
place and not under direct sunlight as their leaves can be easily sunburned and
need regular water spray to stay wet.
Then my attraction diverts into tomato seeds (from a
store-bought package) and pepper seeds (fresh red pepper). And I'm glad to see
my baby tomato sprout this month! I can’t wait for it to grow so I can harvest
tomatoes to make salads!
I have never had green ladies fingers before but I think my
wife's passion for cooking and my love for new ingredients inspire me to build
a small farm. Nothing is impossible until I have tried so I can’t wait to see
what will happen to my newly established rooftop garden.
That's it for today. Best wishes for all. Thank you.
