SRIMODBHAGAVAD GITA
Om Namah Bhagavate Vasudevaya
Om Sri Paramatman Namah
THE IMPOSSIBLE BRAHMAN YOGA (VIII)
Summary of Eighth Speech:
Lord Krishna explains how those who find Him need not return to this eternal world of sorrow and grief. All creatures, including the gods, come to this earth many times from the invisible realm where they live at the end of the cycle of years. But the Lord is present even beyond this invisible person. That glorious, incorruptible reality of God is the highest attainable goal. Dedication to our one mind is the key to achieving this most blessed state.
Although there are happy and exciting situations to leave the physical body and go away, but if a person abides in the Lord with strong devotion and faith, then these conditions do not matter. By abiding in the Lord with pure love, everything is made accessible, if one can remain in union with God with deep devotion, constant remembrance, constant meditation and continuous nourishment, then all times, places, situations and conditions become pleasant and blessed. This is the secret to asking for His Grace and to receive Him and to have eternal freedom and happiness.
Arjuna here asks Lord Krishna about the meaning of the different words mentioned by Him in the last two verses of the previous chapter. He wants to know what the Supreme Being is, what karma or action he refers to, and what the meaning of the spirit, the elements, and the center of all that is in the human body are.
Apart from all that is visible and invisible, apart from these names and forms, there is the Supreme Brahman. He lives in this body as the center of all things, including ourselves (each soul). We are a spiritual person living in this body and supported by the Silent Witness within the Supreme Antaryamin. Prakriti or Nature is a genetic material. Worship, prayer and devotion to the gods in faith and devotion are actions that lead to happiness.
The secret to reaching the Supreme Being and thus freeing oneself forever from birth and death and the pains and sufferings of this earthly life, is to always remember the Lord always, in all places and in the midst of one's daily activities. If a person practices consistent recollection using the usual daily Shanahana, he will be focused on His remembrance and the time of departure from this body when he dies. Leaving thus, he will transcend darkness and slavery and attain a place of eternal blessing.
One has to use mental control. The nerves should be well directed and gradually withdrawn from external objects. The mind must be centered within God, according to Om or another divine name. By doing so every day the Lord is easily found.
